DOJO KUN
Karate begins and ends with COURTESY.
Actions have CONSEQUENCES.
We lead by EXAMPLE.
We are RESPONSIBLE.
Therefore, there is no excuse for
BAD MANNERS.
A SENSEI “A Teacher”
A Sensei’s job is not an easy one. He must be strong, yet gentle; tender, yet stern. He must listen without hearing and hear without listening; see without looking...look and not see. He sees what is not visible and hears what is not spoken. For only in this way can he learn of his students’ needs and guide them along the path to themselves.
He challenges his students, sometimes taking a position diametrically opposed to theirs . . . To make them see the truth.
He demands excellence from himself, requires it from his students; reaching with them for the impossible goal... Perfection.
At times he is distant, aloof, unreachable. Yet, he is never far from his students. They are his lifeblood . . . Because he is a Sensei.
For every ten thousand students who join a Karate class, one will become a Sensei and go on to teach others what he has learned, for Karate is now a part of his life, and he shall go on to share this life with others. Think of it. He is one in ten thousand. This person is a Sensei. If you have a good one, take care of him.
