Kyoshi Phil Morgan
Beginning in 1975 and continuing through the present. Phil Morgan, 8th degree Black Belt, has trained under Master Herb Johnson, 9th degree Black Belt. From 1983 through 1988 he taught and managed studios for Herb Johnson. In 1988 Mr. Morgan opened his own school in Plainfield, Indiana.
Teaching is truly Mr. Morgan's first love. In addition to being sought after as a speaker / teacher, Mr. Morgan was honored with the award of "Instructor of the Year" by the Professional Karate Commission (PKC) in 1991.
As a competitor, Mr. Morgan has been very successful in Kata, Kumite, and Weapons Kata. Mr. Morgan is a five time National Champion with the PKC, winning these titles in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1994. In 1990 and 1992, he was voted the “Best Competitor of the Year” by the PKC. He captured #1 in the Nation twice in Kata and Weapons Kata with the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) in 1990 and 1991.
In addition, Mr. Morgan won the title of “Best Overall Black Belt Competitor” both of those years.He is a six time Indiana State Champion, winning those titles in 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1994. In 1996, Mr. Morgan also received the “Sportsmanship Award”.

In 1992, Mr. Morgan was asked by the “D.K.T. Force One National Karate Team”, out of Washington, D.C. to join their team. This was truly “American’s Karate Team” and traveled all over the country and the world. While on this team, Mr. Morgan captured a World title in Fighting and a World Title in Weapons in Hawaii at the “Asian Pacific World Championships” in November of 1992.
In 1997, Mr. Morgan went to Irvine, California and won Grand Champion in Kata at the “United States Karate Alliance Nationals”. He continued on to New Orleans in the same year to the “USKA World Championships” where he won Grand Champion in Kata and was also inducted into the USKA “Hall of Fame”. Mr. Morgan repeated his performance in 1998 and 1999.
One of Mr. Morgan’s most treasured awards is the “Glenn Keeney Excellence Award”, which was presented to him in 1996 for sustained devotion to Karate-Do.
